Are banks open on Thanksgiving 2026?

No. November 26, 2026 is a Thursday. Federal offices and Federal Reserve Banks are both closed. The next business day on both calendars is Friday, November 27, 2026. That Friday is a business day. The day after Thanksgiving is not a federal holiday.

Calendar

Both ends count when they are business days, the same shape as Excel NETWORKDAYS. A single closed day counts as 0. Changing a date or the calendar asks this site’s API. The answer above does not. Sources: OPM Federal Holidays and Federal Reserve K.8. Not legal, payroll, or financial advice.

The two calendars agree on this Thursday

Thanksgiving Day is the fourth Thursday of November, one of the eleven dates in 5 U.S.C. § 6103(a). This calendar uses that Thursday, so the Saturday and Sunday rules never move it. In 2026 the date is November 26. On both us-federal-opm and us-fed-banking, observed is 2026-11-26 and shift_rule is null.

Friday, November 27, 2026 is a business day on both calendars. The day after Thanksgiving is not one of the eleven legal public holidays, and it is not a Reserve Bank closing. Some employers and some states close that Friday. This page does not.

The two calendars do not always agree. Independence Day 2026 closes federal offices on Friday, July 3, and leaves Reserve Banks open. Veterans Day does the same when November 11 is a Saturday: offices close the Friday before, and the Banks stay open. Those Fridays are November 10, 2023 and November 10, 2028. Thanksgiving has no such Friday.

Closed here means the OPM weekday for federal offices, and the K.8 holiday for Federal Reserve Banks and Branches. It does not say whether a private bank’s branch is open. It is not an ACH cutoff and not a Fedwire operating-hours notice.

roll moves the Thursday to Friday, November 27. The result date matches. The reason is the calendar’s own name for the closing: observed federal holiday for offices, Reserve Bank holiday for the Banks. Samples on this page leave out sources and disclaimer. The live JSON includes both.
